PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS a key component that makes FJA’s faculty the fuel that propels our students. This summer, history instructor Joseph Bernstein has a unique learning opportunity planned that will surely benefit his classes.
Bernstein gained acceptance to the 2017 USS Midway’s Institute for teachers on the Cold War, Korea and Vietnam. The learning will take place aboard the decommissioned aircraft carrier anchored in San Diego, Calif.  The two-week symposium provides academic presentations, pedagogical sessions and interaction with historians, scholars and military veterans. Bernstein is only one of 20 teachers nationally selected to attend this year’s conference.

In the past, as part of his efforts to expand his knowledge on various social studies subjects, Bernstein participated in similar programs pertaining to the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta and The Great Jewish Books Program at The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Ma.
